IMPACT–CDAD Newsletter — Issue 1
CDI: Changing Epidemiology and Risk Factors
CDI: Changing Epidemiology and Risk Factors discusses how C. difficile infection has evolved to not only affect the elderly and hospitalized patient population, but also younger patients and those without any traditional risk factors for infection. The etiology and pathogenesis of disease are also discussed, including the characteristics of the epidemic hypervirulent strain. Though several patient risk factors have been identified, antimicrobial use in general remains the key precipitating event for CDI.
